Global Grant Scholarships

Rotary Global Grants may support scholarships for graduate students studying abroad in one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. Prospective scholars must show proof of admission to the chosen university before the grant will be approved. Global grant scholars are expected to participate in club or district activities before, during, and after the scholarship. Global Grant Scholarships are funded using the District Designated Fund, matched by Rotary’s World Fund. The Global Grant Scholarship budget must total at least US$30,000.

Global Grant Scholarships began in 2013 and replaced the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program. District 5710 averaged one Global Grant Scholar a year from fiscal years 2013 – 2018. In 2019 and 2020, no money was allocated to Global Grant Scholarships but money was directed to making District 5710 a Rotary Peace District.

Then, in fiscal 2020-2021, District 5710 started a new initiative to invest in a fund to support Global Grant Scholarships again. District 5710 is setting aside $15,000 during two fiscal years (2023-2024/2024-2025), until a total of $30,000 had been reached. These District Designated Funds can be matched with up to 80 percent from the Rotary World Fund, thus providing up to a total of $54,000 for a Global Grant Scholarship. Scholarships must be budgeted at a minimum of $30,000.

Therefore, in fiscal year 2024-2025, Rotarians may work to find, interview, and select a Global Grant Scholar. Money will be available in fiscal year 2025-2026, for the student to study abroad.
  • District works to find and interview Global Grant Scholarship applicants in 2024-2025
  • District submits the application to RI in the spring of 2025
  • Global Grant Scholar goes abroad to study in the fall or winter of 2025-2026.
Then, the process will start over.  District 5710 will put aside $15,000 a year for another two years.
