Intersection to Care – Providing reintegration services to women leaving incarceration.

In our community more than 50 women are released from jail every month. There is a critical need for a comprehensive reintegration process for these women. Without these services, women are susceptible to sex traffickers who are waiting in the jail’s dark and ominous parking lot to “help.”  These women are extremely vulnerable because they have experienced trauma; many having been sold for sex. They leave incarceration with only the clothes they wore coming to jail, no food, money, phone, transportation, or housing. Traffickers offering basic needs in exchange for sexual servitude are likely very tempting. Prior to a woman’s release, our project will provide a comprehensive community-based support program implemented as they exit the jail door. We will provide immediate, basic needs in the form of clothing, food vouchers, prepaid phones, and bus fare. We will meet with each woman to develop a mentorship plan to help them overcome barriers to housing, employment, education, and healthcare. We will work with area employers to help them attain sustainable employment and become a contributing member of their community.
